Love Letters - Our Story of Hope

Welcome to Love Letters, a commemorative project for the residents of the Wood Buffalo region. You’ll be able to look through, when this project launches, a collection compiled and assembled with love by the community for the community.

About Love Letters

Here, We Are
Twenty twenty-one marks the fifth anniversary of the 2016 Horse River Wildfire and the first anniversary of the 2020 Spring Flood. While our economy, building structures and natural surroundings were impacted immensely by disaster reoccurrence, the reality is our residents harnessed the hardest of the hits.

To commemorate the significance of the disaster anniversaries, we want to focus on moving forward with a healing approach as well as showcase the art that has been created in the years since these events. The project has the potential to bring the community together in a new way to heal together.

The Love Letters commemorative project includes a collection of poetry, artwork, stories and letters made by those impacted by the Wood Buffalo region’s disasters. The Love Letters collection will be showcased virtually, and submissions will be accepted indefinitely.

Who We Are
Our joint-team of community leaders and social profits organizations aims to focus on how far we’ve come, to showcase our story of hope through adversity through the Love Letters commemorative project.
